Disco Portrait Photographs
I was hired last minute to take portrait photographs of a double eighth children’s Birthday Party – which was also a disco! If you’ve ever tried to photograph a disco you’ll probably discover 2 things:
- If you use a camera flash then it lights up the subjects as though they are in a normally lit room.
- If you don’t use flash, you get the bright lights of the disco but everything is very blurred.
Photographic Experience Counts
The reason you hire a professional photographer is to get professional results. Everyone has a camera, but getting the shot isn’t always as easy as it may first seem. As I’ve said above, in a dark disco scenario, the results you get aren’t necessarily what you want.
Having photographed weddings and late night parties I knew I wanted to capture the atmosphere of the disco as well as that of a children’s party. Children move quickly and in the dark – with no flash – being able to capture this can be very difficult.
Good Equipment helps get Good Portrait Photographs
Many people say, “A good camera does not make a good photographer,” and, “a good photographer can take good photographs without a good kit.” Both these statements are completely true. However, in a hostile environment (and a dark room full of sugar induced 6 to 8 year-olds is such an environment) having the right kit for the job is really important.
I invest a lot in high quality lenses and top of the range cameras to ensure that I can deliver whatever the environment.
Frenzied Portrait Photographs
I think you’ll agree that I’ve captured the frenzy, fun, excitement and enjoyment of a children’s high energy disco and the calmer lighter side of children at a birthday party.
